Nordic Music Prize nominees announce new single. Second album due 2020

Karina is Finnish indie-folk musicians Karin Mäkiranta and Helmi Tikkanen. Today the duo is releasing their brand new single ‘Not Enough’ (En Oo Tän Enempää), which is the latest from their upcoming new record. The track’s sweeping instrumentation, ethereal vocals and folk-infused rhythms epitomise the duo’s sound; beautiful, raw storytelling set over a stunning sonic backdrop.

The new record is the follow-up to Karina’s self-produced, self-titled debut album, which was released in 2018. Following a swathe of critical acclaim Karina was nominated for the 2019 Hyundai Nordic Music Prize after which they toured the release around Europe alongside Beirut.

The duo describe the song as being about relationships between parent and a child: “The relationship can be difficult and heart-breaking, but it is comforting that the deep love will keep the family always together in a way or another. This song tells the story of a daughter who reflects these emotions.”

Lyrics:

I thought you could handle less
And that’s why I poured more over you
I get bored, irritated and hateful
And all you do is try to correct me in my own words

Even if you didn’t hear from me
You would still be waiting for me
I’m not really there for you

I am no more than this
Just one more reason to grieve, oh mother
If only I were more perfect

The good I saw in myself was without you
But without you I wouldn’t dare to feel
Dread, weariness, genuine emotions
Please fight my resistance
And know that I do love you

I am no more than this
Just one more reason to grieve, oh mother
If only I were more perfect
